Gabby Young and Other Animals ‘We’re All In This Together’
6/10, Album. Initially I thought this would be a standard Jazz album, but not the case! Gabby has a very high pitched voice and her influences are far wider.
Rhett Miller ‘Rhett Miller’
7.5/10, Album. Part country and a little poppy this singer songwriter hits lots of right notes. Reminds me of Josh Rouse. Recommend: Caroline
Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop ‘Stamp Out Reality’
7/10, Album. Pioneer of German Hip Hop appeals with a real 70s jazz/funk edge to this album. Recommend: Point Black
Dave Rawlings Machine – A Friend Of A Friend
7.5/10, Album. Laid back folk/country album with some fine songwriting. Good vocals too. Only visit if you like this styleof music. Recommend: How’s About You
The Somebody’s ’50 Trib To The Brothers Gibb’
5/10, Album. Bunch of top producers re-make classic Bee Gees tracks. It’s ok, really, but I can’t understand why you wouldn’t rather listen to the Bee Gees originals.
Bass Clef ‘May The Bridges…’
7.5/10, Album. Intelligent, largely instrumental, electonic LP with thumping beats, slight dnb and good atmospherics. Recommend: Track 7
Sean Paul ‘Press It Up’
6.5/10, Single. Doesn’t quite have the ferocity of ‘Fire Burning’, but still a solid dancehall tune.
Every Avenue ‘Picture Perfect’
7/10, Album. Punchy commercial pop punk rock. Recommend: Girl Like That
Framing Hanley ‘The Moment’
5/10, Album. Typical US mainstream rock album. Not particularly impressive and quite pedestrian in the main. Could be popular with some radio play. Recommend: Built For Sin
Kids In Glass Houses ‘Youngblood (Let It Out)’
7/10, Single. This track shows a band starting to live up to their rock hype and this will be able to walk onto the radio. They’ll need to follow it up, but can’t wait for album next March!
